Questions are the Answers - for a happier life

I'm finally having my 'real' semester break after back from 3 days Youth Defined ETP/GTP in KL. It's an awesome seminar with youth leaders across Malaysia. A lot of inputs and outputs have been produced. Will talk about it in another post. 

Now it's the best time to get some reading at home.  

I've bought this book, like 2 years ago, what Anthony Robbins writes inside never fails to impress me. 

Reading Chapter 8 moments earlier has broaden my perspective and would like to share here with you. 

Many often we are not satisfied on current life, feel unhappy, emotionally unstable and having relationships problems; have you ever thought this is because we ask the wrong questions? 

QUESTIONS ARE THE ANSWERS

If we want to change the quality of our lives, we should change our habitual questions. 

We need to realize, what we do mostly day in and day out, is ask and answer questions. 

Remember, ask and you shall receive. If you ask a terrible question, you'll get a terrible answer. 

So if you ask, "Why can't I ever succeed?", it will tell you, "Because you're stupid," or "Because you don't deserve to do well"

But if you try to ask, "How can I succeed?", "What I can do to succeed?", the outcome will be totally different. 

Google relationships

Questions determine everything you do in life, from your abilities to your relationships to your income. For example, many people fail to commit in relationships simply because they keep asking questions that create doubt: "What if there's somebody better out there? What if I commit myself now and miss out?" 

What terribly disempowering question! 

Sometimes these same people destroy the relationships with more horrible questions: "How come you always do this to me?" "Why don't you appreciate me?" "What if I were to leave right now - how would that make you feel?" 

Compare this with:- 

"How did I get so lucky to have you in my life?" "What do I love most about my husband/wife? How much better will our lives be as a result of our relationships?" 

Same goes to persons who ain't doing well financially.

They ask questions like "What toys do I want right now? instead of "What plan do I need in order to achieve my ultimate financial goal?" 

The questions you ask will determine where you focus, how you think, how you feel, and what you do. 

This shapes your destiny. 

And we can actually change how we feel in an instant, just by changing our focus! 

Stop asking "How come I'm so depressed?" or "Why doesn't anybody like me?" as you will focus on and look for references to back up the idea that there is a reason to feel unloved or sad. 

Try something like this, ask yourself "What are my most happy memories?" or "What's really great in my life right now?". You'll not only feel better but be able to contribute more to those around you! 

If you're feeling really sad, there is only one reason: 

It's because you're deleting all the reasons you could be feeling good. 

And if you're feeling good, you're deleting all the bad things you could be focusing on!

So, start asking empowering question to yourself right now. 

Every morning when you wake up, ask some of these questions: 

1. What am I happy in my life now? 

2. What am I excited in my life now?

3. What am I proud in my life now?

4. What am I grateful in my life now?

5. What am I enjoying most in my life now?

6. What am I committed to in my life right now?

7. Who I love? Who loves me? 

In the evening, ask these 3 questions:

1. What have I given today?

2. What did I learn today?

3. How has today added to the quality of my life or how can I use today as an investment in my future?

Wall Street Money Never Sleeps: My 10 Best Quotes

I watched this last weekend and just wanna share some thoughts here. 

It's a 13-PG movie for brief strong language and thematic elements; run time 2 hour 16 min. 

"Wow! The movie is so long, money never sleeps but audiences sleep?" See joked to us. 

Yes, it's the movie title and curiosity that attract the audiences. 

It's Wall Street. The place for the top finance professionals, fund managers, bankers, investors and etc.  

It's all about Money. Who's not interested in $? 

If doctors save patient life, then these finance people are related to everyone's life. 

A financial-crisis like 2008's turned millions to be jobless overnights. Many committed suicide. Economics stagnant. Less fund to the schools and hospitals. Less roads were built. Scholarships cut down. Etc. 

This movie is too serious. It's not a good movie if you don't like what's behind. Certainly will feel bored. Go for Avatar or Transformers if you want to watch high-tech, or Resident Evil for an action movie. 

This movie is showing reality. The reality of life.

Hello world! I'm back in blogging mood after 3 weeks absent in this space. 

It's very encouraging to see this blog welcomes an average daily traffic of 20-30+ without updating of new posts. To a novice blogger like me, it motivates me to write better posts! 

This time, it's all about myself. And it'll be a short one. *Promise ya gd sis! XD*

Quality goes out of lifestyle. I cannot agree more. We don't have to be a millionaire to enjoy life. 

My 2nd year university life has truly been a busy, dramatic and I shall call it, well, meaningful one. Over the past few weeks I have not really sit down and enjoy the peace of mind. 

So, here I'm. Starbucks @ Borders Queensbay. My favourite weekend past-time in previous semester. 

And this is the 1st time I'm here for this semester. 

For those who close to me know that I love to read. And I read a lot & lovin' it. 

Settling down in the soft sofa, with a cup of caffe mocha (20% discount with Penang Youth Jam 10' Discount Voucher =P ), enjoying the latest magazines and soft music...are just relaxing. 

Time, Newsweek, Penang Economic Monthly, 号外周刊 are the must...  

Besides reading 刘轩 & Lee Kuan Yew new publishes. 

Not bad what you just have to pay RM10 for all these magazines and books which give you knowledges in return. 

And I encountered this very friendly and smart guy, Chin Wei, Senior R&D Engineer in STEC Inc which is the global main player in SSD (Solid-State Drive). SSD is going to replace our bulky hard disk very soon! 

He's not that kind of typical tech guy but is very well-spoken and inspirational. Besides exchanging thoughts on current technology market, economics and real estate news, we do talk about life. 

I always like sea view and the bridge. 

"Sometimes, being alone enjoying the view will make you calm down, and a lot of thoughts coming in; which is a good thing. Life is only once, you can choose to live it happily, why not?", Chin Wei said. 

It's very true. 

Life may not as smooth as you think. Sometimes you don't really expect it to be the outcome. A lot of things happened, and things happened for a reason. Think, what have you learnt and how did you solve the crisis?

Life is all about experiences, different types of stories; good or bad. And I really cherish every part of it.

Life is something that everyone should try at least once.

If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies. 

I cherish friendships a lot nowadays. Real one I mean. And I'm proud of what I've done.

USM 2010/2011 new intake, new journey!

I'm sitting at this freezing Bilik Gerakan at Tekun hostel, all prepared for tomorrow official new students intake!

And yes, time really flies, see, now I am a PPSL (facilitator for new student) and no more junior...Haha

I used to be excited and feel uncertained about how new uni life would be too!

The past 1 year university life was really really fun; people, societies and activities made my life interesting!

I was from science stream but never ever regret by changing into business field! I just like economics, entrepreneurships & world current issues. And I like what I study. So, choose the course you really like!

For all new juniors in USM batch 2010/2011, a big warm welcome!

What I can say is in USM you can have an interesting campus life!

Yes I have to admit that some people prefer KL as a metropolitan and more shopping centers...haha...but Penang is just fine!

Nice foods, heritage feel, sea, sand, sun, sex .....

I would say university life is a turning point to many.

And being a first year everything just a beginning, so, don't limit yourself.

Your future is not determined by your past.

Explore in every possible opportunities.

In orientation weeks new students required to take part in many formal activities...

And you meet a lot of new friends, and some genius smart one like this...Haha =P

Networking is just important, you will never know your friends might be your CEO or biggest client someday.

And you will start outing since the first few weeks...Queensbay 10min away...simply throw a stone u will hit a USM student head...LOL

USM is a beautiful campus. I just like the greeneries. It's not as large as UPM, UTM, UUM; but again, it's just nice.

USM is dubbed as "University in a Garden" and aptly so.

Chinatown is very strategic! Guess what? Just 5 min MRT from Vivo! 

Vivocity is located opposite of Sentosa Island! You can see Resort World in the near horizon

Oh yes...I was very tired that day...my small enough jay chou rain sexy eyes became even smaller =P

Singapore is very smart! 

Almost every shopping malls attract big crowds! 

Vivocity, Bugis Junction, Iluma, Orchard, Suntec Mall & etc --- all well-connected by MRT ! 

If you want to pak tor or shopping there no need car, just take a MRT and you can go to a lot of happening & romantic places! 

IMAGINE our KL LRT connects 1 U, Sunway Pyramid, Midvalley, Pavilion, KLCC all in the same line ? 

Penang Monorail to bring you to Gurney Plaza, 1st Avenue, Timesquares & Queensbay ? 

Memang syok-lah macam ni!

Woke up in a cheerful morning!

The good thing you sleep in a hostel is, today an Australian sleep on your next bed, but the next morning you wake up it might be a Briton! 

We met a very handsome Thai, Vincent, in A Beary Good Hostel. He studied English language in Singapore for 1 month last year and is Ke Xin's favourite!

MRT station, is NEAR to our hostel, just 20 STEPS! Very convenient! 

For backpacker like us, we have to acquire at least 3 skills for an effective trip:-

1. Read Tourist map

2. Read MRT map

3. Planning, Planning, Planning ; if don't know - ASK

In Singapore it's damn easy & convenient. It's like in Taipei where 1 card you can access to anywhere! MRT, buses, Sentosa monorail and etc. 

$15 for the card ($10 credit & $5 non-refundable), and you can reload it at MRT station, ATM, 7-11 and etc. 

If you are a HEAVY traveller and just stay for 3 days maximum, it's advisable to buy a Singapore Tourist Pass. $34 for 3-days unlimited travel.

MRT system 2010

Trust me, you can understand Singapore's MRT (Mass Rail Transit) system at a glance. There are 4 major lines now, namely, East West Line (Green), North South Line (Red), North East Line (Purple) and latest Circle Line (Orange). 

You simply can memorize the colors. All the interchange stations are well connected, within walking distance and you don't have to walk under hot scorching sun or soak in a rain like KL's. While KL struggles to boast public transport to 20% the little red dot is already aiming for 70%. 

So today, 20th May 2010 --- Last day of my 19th --- We're heading to Orchard Road! 

Orchard you must at least visit twice! One at day time, another at night (preferably Friday / Saturday) to squeeze with the crowd  feel the atmosphere! It's happening!

Chinatown MRT is strategic. Sentosa? Marina Bay? Orchard Road? Clarke Quay? All within few stops! 

To experience the pulses of a city, first thing you must walk. 

So we chose to step out at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. 

Dhoby Ghaut has the most interchange lines (purple, red, orange)

You can feel the tension & competitiveness of Singaporeans by using the escalators! The speed is 2 times of Malaysia's! Fast! Everything there must fast, efficient, and chun! 快，狠，准！

You wouldn't feel bored underground. Singaporean utilizes every inch of their land! 

Yes, They are really good at adding "value" ! A bus stop is not just a stop, and etc. Shall elaborate in next few posts. 

So we came out at Dhoby Ghaut MRT and started walking!

Nice and green buildings are just anywhere.

Read the map! Don't get lost!  The most important thing! We are heading to Orchard, not Geylang! 

One big stretch of road - Orchard Rd. 

You can easily find 20 + shopping malls there! Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Giorgio Armani, Prada, Dior...lost count @@...not  just 1 outlet but many there...flagships! 

And it makes you feel like robbing bank! 

Orchard Road just underwent a $40 millions revamp in 2009, with addition of new street lamps, urban green rooms, flower totem poles and new modern malls opening! True Singapore's government plan for the future.  

For Penang-lang! And yes there're many successful & famous Penangites in Singapore including the ministers and businessman. 

2X Bus! Like Taipei, there're specific bus lanes.

You know what, shopping experience in Singapore is different. A normal shopping mall is on par, if not better 

than Pavilion KL. They really put much effort in adding value and architecture designs. 

Personally I quite like 313@Somerset. Just 5 months into operations, 313@Somerset already welcomed 15 millions visitors, higher than targeted 10 millions. 

Goods are middle-high range. Quite a good place to shop in Orchard Road. 

Shoppers Jin Yan & Beautrice advices: Can get some good deals at largest Uniqlo & Forever 21 stores in SEA.

I like 21 this number! huat ah!

Largest Food Republic @ 313 Somerset 

Singaporeans are very good in packaging. 

Food Republic sounds very cool rite? 

Actually it's just like our food court or Medan Selera here. But they market it well & add value and we consumers get different experience! Varieties of choices and foods really quite good!

I ordered Niu Rou Dao Qie Mian (刀切面）, $6.00. Chef from China, boss Taiwanese

Din Tai Fung! Its xiao long pao is world-class! 

Yeah we tried at its 1st outlet at Taipei, those who read my Taiwan travel log would know =D

Now it's available in The Gardens as well! 

Most well-known landmark at Orchard Rd - Ngee Ann City 

Not many know in the 50s it was actually a burial ground managed by Ngee Ann Kongsi

My favourite of all time! 

It was SEA largest bookstore for almost 10 years until the opening of Gramedia in Jakarta.

It's glimmering & shinning. Like diamond and its design won world-class award. 

ION Orchard is actually my uncle's company project. 

And the company, RSP Architects Planners & Engineers won the Structural Steel Design Award for ION Orchard.

Guess what! Ting Yik & I went into most shopping malls @ Orchard Rd. We spent the whole afternoon & whilst gals were shopping & enjoyed nice yogurts. You name it! Orchard Central, 313@Somerset, Ngee Ann City, ION Orchard, TANGs, Paragon etc. 

We didn't just step in but we explored the entire building. For us, shopping is to see the design, the layout floor plan, how they attract crowds...and....visit the book stores!!! Kinda boring huh? Haha. We did step into special and creative outlets! 

Oh yeah 20th May was my last day as 19th innocent  good boy. 

At night, very much thanks to my Xiao Shu! Remember RSP company which I mentioned just now? Yes he's the one. 

He purposely fetched 4 of us to Kuishin-Bo Authentic Japanese Buffet Restaurant at Suntec City Tower 1 to celebrate my birthday as well as welcome us to Singapore! 

A night drive at Singapore was a different feel. Not like the notorious kl traffic. 

Per person $39.90 and on thursday nite it was a full-house. Thanks Xiao Shu for the treats! 

We almost had to sit outside.

Xiao Shu drove us around CBD (Central Business District, Orchard Road and etc) Singapore night view was just awesome! Fantastic skyline!

We passed through many notable universities and colleges such as Singapore Management University (SMU). It's located in the heart of city and business students there are trained to be street smart and present confidently! Withink walking distance there're night clubs and bars, for business purposes? XD

Next, we moved on to La Salle College of Arts. Yeah, it's College!!! 

Imagine if our local universities are like this? 

College? Shopping mall? Hotel? UFO?

And yes it's again my Xiao Shu's company RSP's award winning project.

For your info RSP is the local building mafia and guess what, a lot of places we were going designed by them.

Next and last stop of the day --- Clarke Quay. Xiao Shu left us at CQ for my 20th b'day. 

It is situated in the upstream of Singapore River and a historical-site turned happening floating pubs and restaurants. Music in the air! 

It's really a nice place to hang put with friends. The party don't start till I walk in! XD

It's tempting! But at last still guai guai went for a drink. Didn't want to waste the japanese foods that I swallowed. 

Again it's refurbished and designed by RSP! Imagine in just 1 day we visited 3 landmarks by RSP!
