And it's all for a great awesome volunteer project/group "FRIENDS of TASIK HARAPAN"! It's a USM - CIMB Bank Lake Clean-Up Initiative. In short, we want to make Tasik Harapan clean!

The launching of "FRIENDS of TASIK HARAPAN" will be an exciting event. And if you're a USM student or even staff, have a passion towards environment & sustainability, come join us in this volunteer program!

So, some people start asking "Why Tasik Harapan"? "What can EM balls do?" "What kind of  technology to be used?" I'll share info from Dr Asha's powerpoint slides & researches.

USM is passed through by Sungai Gambir to the sea. We've 2 lakes - Tasik Harapan & Tasik Aman...

"Did you know Tasik Harapan was the retention point after Desa Aman's fire in 1988? It once was the beautiful lake where students can kayak & clean. But today there's algae bloom! A lot of students kena the air and get skin affections!" said Dr Asha, PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

There're also a lot of Harapan students who complained "I tak boleh tahan the smell since 1st sem~~~

It was once a beautiful and clean lake.

from google

Nowadays, we're can't even kayak there!

from google

A lot of people don't know, actually buawak biawak is one of the problems too!

"So, on 21st August it's in Bulan Ramadhan...We will throw 10,000 EM mudballs into the lake, we want you biawak to puasa as well!" Dr Asha joked

from google

Once it's having a heavy rain...tasik harapan & surrounding becomes flooded and this causes inconvenience to students staying nearby.

Algae Bloom - You can't see the fishes

We are proud of USM being dubbed as "University in a Garden", can we let Tasik Harapan condition to deteriorate?!

If you can do something to the earth and save the environment, don't you wanna be part of this great movement?

A lot of researches have been carried out scientifically by professionals from different sectors to make this a successful one.

And together we will start here at USM Tasik Harapan! We already bought our own BIOREACTOR to produce EMAS (Effective Microorganism Activated Solution) as well as EM Mudballs.

Key Points:-

Tasik Harapan Clean-Up Initiative is sponsored by CIMB with a total amount of RM 120K~

We've 6 months to get show progress and get involvement from as many students as well as staffs!

We can't hope for just 1 day to clean up all the mess over the years.

But if you don't start now, it'll be too late.

We've EM Technology Consultant & EM Technology which has proven huge successes especially in Japan.

We've faith to succeed as we do it scientifically and with intensive experiments and researches.

USM has installed this BIOREACTOR at Tasik Harapan.

EMAS (Effective Microorganism Activated Solution) will be pumped into Tasik Harapan through 10 places all over the lake.

IMPORTANT DETAILS!

EM Technology has proven success and it's one of the best, cheapest and sustainable way to clean up river and sea.

"Millions Apologies to Earth" - throwing millions of EM mudballs at Gurney Drive not long ago.

Standard Chartered Bank sponsored RM 1M to Zoo Negara to clean up its lake, as well using EM Technology.

from google

So this little ugly mudball...can really do wonders?

from google

Yes, but it's your passion & actions towards environmental sustainability that make real wonders!

Being part of "Friends of Tasik Harapan", we'll have the chance to learn how to do EM mudballs as well! This's one of the highly sought after skills! Haha

"Did you notice that going green now has become a trend! And in an interview, my pharmaceutical company's boss picked the candidate who can provide sustainable solutions or extra 'green knowledge' for the job, putting academic performance".

So, let's volunteer for this activity! See you on 21st August 2010 (Saturday) at Tasik Harapan. Register yourself here https://spreadsheets1.google.com/viewform?formkey=dDZkYWlZMFVQME1PVmRxQ21xSkpjT0E6MQ

Management Society USM - What is it about? Just a short update =D

It's been a while since I last wrote a post. Over the past few weeks have been very busy. So when you heard someone complained: "Hey...when are you gonna update your blog?!", you actually are happy cause at least someone's reading. HAHA. If you're a blogger sure understand me! =PP

So I'm writing this post! Just a short one to let more juniors know what's so important being part of School of Management USM and as well Management Society.

I regretted to miss last year and you all don't repeat my steps =D

"Join university activities which can help and align with your future career, but not to join for the sake of joining" quoted Gene-Harn, a very active youth and project manager of AIESEC USM. He's very right.

School of Management USM has always been striving to be leading Business School in this region. The efforts of the entire SOM's community were cowned with success when in 2003, the Ministry of Education bestowed the honour of being the best School of Business Management and Accounting in the country.

As an undergraduate in SOM I have to admit that we still have a lot to learn and improve to be like world famous Columbia Business School, Harvard Business School, London Business School and etc.

USM is doing its role with APEX (Accelerated Programs for Excellence) initiatives and Blue Ocean Strategies under leaderships of our Vice-chancellor.

"Don't ask what a country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country"

Likewise, now it's about how you can make yourself, as a USM SOM undergraduate, be more employable, different from other graduates and shine in the future career

Here, USM Management Society fits in nicely. It's just like a bridge which links students to SOM & the industries outside.

Management Society President, Siew Phing said:" It's not just about society, it's about our vision. We want to make USM Management undergrads are reputable in the industry and it's all about branding - and performance!

"So we need you young talents to become part of our committee and realise our vision" She said to all 200 management juniors.

I'm not saying that must be in Management Society only can do something...No, it's just about our roles as a SOM undergrad. I've friends who're not in the society but equally making great impact!

I can't write in details what Management Society is over here cause it'll be too lengthy and too informative.

So, in short, if you want to contribute and develop yourself as a USM Business undergraduate, come for the committee interview!

MANAGEMENT SOCIETY INTERVIEW

Time: 1pm- 4pm

It'll be more like a sharing than a harsh interview...just relax =P

Short Updates PPSL + Kem Pimpin Siswa + Useful Website Management 1st Year

Yo friend!

Waka Waka Sexy Shakira World Cup 2010 had come and passed.

To me the biggest winner of all is neither Spain nor Netherlands, but ---

Paul the Octopus! German VS Malaysia ??

I guess octopus is the most popular food at Nibong Tebal Chang Kee restaurant now? =P

Paul the Octopus to become Apple App too!

Whenever you are undecided, ask Paul @ your iPhone; whether you want to go for a movie or skating, wear skirt or or dress...for $1 Paul will provide the answer.

So, what's up for the past 3 + weeks?

PPSL + Faci @ Pimpin Siswa Kem D'Risa, Gerik, Perak rocked my life!

The 1st week we had a 4D3N training at Kem Ulu Kanas, Kuala Kangsar, Perak before you be a leader first you have to be a good follower.

Favourite part of all was going into the jungle at 6pm, built tent & dinner at 8pm, and night jungle trekking till the wee hours.

TEKUN...PANAS!

One thing you joined PPSL is that, you can really feel the sense of belonging to USM...as well as your own hostel.

With PPSL Tekun, a batch of great people different backgrounds.

To juniors out there, yes, we had hard works even before you came. =P

Welcoming USM Borneo students at the airport, walao eh, the air con is freezing cold at nite.

But when you're like the hope to the bright new faces, you feel warm deep inside your heart.

Registration Day @ USM. This year there're morning & afternoon sessions, which eased the traffic.

During my year, the cars jammed all the way till Penang Bridge.

Welcoming speech by our respected Pro Dato' Omar Osman, TNC HEP.

Out of 2,000 new students, only 500 are males. Where have all the guys gone?

When first stepped into uni, everything is like uncertain. Who, when, where, what and how?

Excitement was in the air and here PPSL played the role.

But of course PPSL is not just about work, work, work.

Here you stumble upon lots of things...

You met new & nice friends...

Dancing, my fav of all...

Tried to be funny & happy in difficult times

Erm...brainwashing & influencing juniors...haha

Kem Pimpin Siswa Siri 1 2010

Well, I did really meet up many nice juniors. All the best in your uni life! Just explore & experience it! XD

In short, being part of PPSL is really a great experience.

We're the leaders of tomorrow and yes, whatever we've done is not about return; it's more than satisfying when in campus, a junior ran to you and said :" Hi Wilson! I know you, thanks for the guidance!"

But most of the times they just pretended as do not know who I am...@@...HAHA =P

Well, I don't like seniority or junior bla bla bla...

To me, as you step into university, age doesn't matter.

What matters is our own intellectual standard, as I always say, don't respect me because we're seniors, but respect us as your friend. =D

Got one junior asked me:" After all these orientation things....you all will just disappear lo?"

HAHA. Cute la, we'll always be here to assist; before, now and...forever...

USM 2010/2011 new intake, new journey!

I'm sitting at this freezing Bilik Gerakan at Tekun hostel, all prepared for tomorrow official new students intake!

And yes, time really flies, see, now I am a PPSL (facilitator for new student) and no more junior...Haha

I used to be excited and feel uncertained about how new uni life would be too!

The past 1 year university life was really really fun; people, societies and activities made my life interesting!

I was from science stream but never ever regret by changing into business field! I just like economics, entrepreneurships & world current issues. And I like what I study. So, choose the course you really like!

For all new juniors in USM batch 2010/2011, a big warm welcome!

beautiful scenery from usm, also popular dating spot

What I can say is in USM you can have an interesting campus life!

Yes I have to admit that some people prefer KL as a metropolitan and more shopping centers...haha...but Penang is just fine!

Nice foods, heritage feel, sea, sand, sun, sex .....

RST Hostels from USM football field

I would say university life is a turning point to many.

And being a first year everything just a beginning, so, don't limit yourself.

Your future is not determined by your past.

Explore in every possible opportunities.

In orientation weeks new students required to take part in many formal activities...

And you meet a lot of new friends, and some genius smart one like this...Haha =P

Networking is just important, you will never know your friends might be your CEO or biggest client someday.

And you will start outing since the first few weeks...Queensbay 10min away...simply throw a stone u will hit a USM student head...LOL

USM is a beautiful campus. I just like the greeneries. It's not as large as UPM, UTM, UUM; but again, it's just nice.

USM is dubbed as "University in a Garden" and aptly so.

"APEX is not just a status or title, it's about how you students can be more relevant, marketable, confident to others students. Excel in not just academic areas but leaderships, communication, soft skills and etc. Don't just compare with your peers, when you graduate you face the flat world" - Professor Dato' Omar Osman, Timbalan Naib Chancellor HEP USM

Jogging in the late afternoon just to sweat or swim in the olympic-size swimming pool.

Drink a cold milo while enjoying Penang bridge view and sea breeze.

This is Saujana, only all-gals hostel

If you're a gentleman, your limit is here!

This's my room in 1st year.

I don't like things to be messy same goes to my room. Those get my room lucky la! Haha

In short, Welcome to be part of USM!

A relaxing or a interesting, challenging uni life; it's up to your choice! Just learn and have fun, and your papa mama will tell you..."study hard for your CGPA!" =P
